The average export price for steel, alloy stood at $1,037 per ton in January 2024, picking up by 10% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated pronounced growth from January 2023 to January 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2024 figures, export price for steel, alloy increased by +81.3% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 an increase of 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in January 2024.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($2,982 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($781 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+375.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 an increase of 129% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,817 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to January 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,018 per ton), while the price for Japan ($405 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, exports of steel, alloy fell to $71M in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 191% against the previous year.
