The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $2,761 per ton in December 2023, surging by 4.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 18% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3,727 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,536 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,969 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for steel, alloy stood at $2,457 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -6.8% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for steel, alloy increased by +102.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 74%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,636 per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($5,050 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($1,073 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+24.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
