The average export price for steel, alloy stood at $2,178 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The export price peaked at $3,429 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Greece ($2,587 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,565 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In December 2023, the average import price for steel, alloy amounted to $887 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 4.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,654 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,610 per ton), while the price for Russia amounted to $703 per ton.
From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
