In February 2024, the average import price for steel, alloy amounted to $2,423 per ton, reducing by -5.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2023 an increase of 7.4% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $3,461 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to February 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,913 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,998 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In February 2024, the average export price for steel, alloy amounted to $894 per ton, which is down by -26.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2023 an increase of 18% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,173 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to February 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In February 2024, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,183 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($677 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the amount of steel, alloy imported into Brazil was estimated at 42K tons, with an increase of 12% compared with 2021 figures. In value terms, imports of steel, alloy soared to $129M in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
