The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $923 per ton in December 2023, increasing by 3% against the previous month. Over the last ten months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 47% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,109 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,323 per ton), while the price for the UK ($588 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, exports of steel, alloy soared to $22M in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,203% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
