In August 2023, the average export price for steel, alloy; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $1,110 per ton, falling by -5.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 4% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,282 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,627 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($830 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Luxembourg (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for steel, alloy; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses stood at $1,221 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -3.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 7.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,381 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,952 per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($1,176 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas shipments of steel, alloy; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses decreased by -17.7% to 468K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +18.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 42%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 568K tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of steel, alloy; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses rose notably to $640M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
