In August 2023, the average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $3,692 per ton, increasing by 5.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $4,683 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($5,235 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($2,582 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $5,921 per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 35% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($11,165 per ton), while the price for India ($3,928 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Stainless Steel; Flat-Rolled Products of Width Less than 600mm in Finland
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms decreased by -3.7% to 34K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +68.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 35% against the previous year.
In value terms, exports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms surged to $146M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
