In August 2023, the average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $4,821 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 46% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,720 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From November 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Italy amounted to +9.3% per month.

The average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $4,765 per ton in 2022, falling by -38.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 84%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,700 per ton, and then declined significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($8,540 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($2,198 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.2K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, imports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms skyrocketed to $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 101% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
