The average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms stood at $1,586 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -11.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 2.3% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $3,561 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,619 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($622 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (-1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In September 2023, the average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $7,599 per ton, falling by -2.4% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 15% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $8,002 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($17,256 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($2,912 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Stainless Steel; Flat-Rolled Products of Width Less than 600mm in China
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms, when their volume decreased by -10.4% to 733K tons. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 171% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 818K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, exports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms reduced slightly to $1.6B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 207% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.6B, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
