The average import price for spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground stood at $3,441 per ton in 2022, picking up by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep setback. The import price peaked at $15,668 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($13,269 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($1,180 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In general, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 82%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $17,730 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cuba ($32,822 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($9,082 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+46.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground, when their volume decreased by -48.3% to 860 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 89% against the previous year.

In value terms, imports of spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground dropped rapidly to $3M in 2022. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground skyrocketed to $535K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 88%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
