The average import price for spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground stood at $3,366 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -22.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 42% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,888 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Indonesia.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Sri Lanka amounted to +6.6% per month.

The average export price for spices; nutmeg, neither crushed nor ground stood at $10,663 per ton in 2022, waning by -8.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 75% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $11,684 per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($22,188 per ton), while the average price for exports to Norway ($10,250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+109.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
