The average import price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground stood at $10,857 per ton in June 2023, rising by 15% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $11,329 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the UK ($15,540 per ton) and Vietnam ($13,615 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($10,488 per ton) and India ($10,652 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average export price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground amounted to $12,153 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in June 2023.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Egypt ($24,556 per ton) and Turkey ($21,846 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($16,968 per ton) and Guyana ($17,630 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Spices; Nutmeg, Crushed or Ground in the Netherlands

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground, when their volume decreased by -28.4% to 1K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 120% against the previous year.
