Price for Spices; Nutmeg, Crushed or Ground in India (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground stood at $7,146 per ton in May 2023, reducing by -15.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 29% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $9,910 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Togo ($8,433 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($5,566 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground stood at $8,624 per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 107%. The import price peaked at $13,913 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($9,405 per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($8,076 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of spices; nutmeg, crushed or ground, when their volume decreased by -16.4% to 983 tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.2K tons, and then dropped notably in the following year.
