Price for Spices; Mace, Neither Crushed Nor Ground in India (CIF) - 2023

In November 2023, the average import price for spices; mace, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $14,991 per ton, which is down by -1.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $16,121 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($15,660 per ton), while the price for Indonesia stood at $14,969 per ton.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-0.4%).

In November 2023, the average export price for spices; mace, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $18,219 per ton, shrinking by -21% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 an increase of 130% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $27,631 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($48,046 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($8,553 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Spices; Mace, Neither Crushed Nor Ground in India

In 2022, approx. 2K tons of spices; mace, neither crushed nor ground were imported into India; declining by -6.1% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.1K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, imports of spices; mace, neither crushed nor ground declined to $31M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $34M, and then shrank in the following year.
