In 2022, the average import price for spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $12,030 per ton, picking up by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 79%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $13,329 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($14,968 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($5,576 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, purchases abroad of spices; cardamoms, neither crushed nor ground decreased by -18.7% to 191 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend.
