The average smoked fish, incl. fillets export price stood at $8,999 per ton in June 2023, surging by 4.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 9.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($10,560 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($6,259 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average smoked fish, incl. fillets import price amounted to $14,234 per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The import price peaked at $15,627 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($21,088 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($6,889 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas shipments of smoked fish, incl. fillets, which increased by 20% to 3K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +69.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, smoked fish, incl. fillets exports contracted to $24M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $24M, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
