In June 2023, the average smoked fish, incl. fillets import price amounted to $15,704 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $15,747 per ton in May 2023, and then declined slightly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($17,163 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($10,942 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average smoked fish, incl. fillets export price stood at $19,566 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -3.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $20,494 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Canada ($22,378 per ton) and Italy ($22,267 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($17,156 per ton) and Belgium ($19,262 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Smoked Fish, Incl. Fillets in Germany

In 2022, overseas purchases of smoked fish, incl. fillets decreased by -9.3% to 20K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 5.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 25K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, smoked fish, incl. fillets imports dropped to $251M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a perceptible downturn.
