In October 2023, the average import price for sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather amounted to $24.5 per square meter, surging by 35% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 198% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $29.0 per square meter in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($90.1 per square meter), while the price for Mexico ($6.9 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather amounted to $45 per square meter, jumping by 316% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $95 per square meter in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($67 per square meter), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($1.8 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+2,925.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather increased by 21% to 165K square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend.
