The average sheep and goats; live import price stood at $165 per unit in 2022, declining by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $177 per unit in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($285 per unit), while the price for Egypt ($90 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Sheep and Goats; Live in Libya
In 2022, supplies from abroad of sheep and goats; live was finally on the rise to reach 271K units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a dramatic decrease. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 1M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sheep and goats; live imports surged to $45M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a precipitous contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $142M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
