The average sheep and goats; live import price stood at $133 per unit in July 2023, falling by -4.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 24% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $153 per unit. From April 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($139 per unit), while the price for France ($127 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sheep and goats; live export price stood at $133 per unit in 2022, shrinking by -20.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 29%. The export price peaked at $168 per unit in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($211 per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($119 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
