The average sheep and goats; live import price stood at $44 per unit in 2022, rising by 32% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 85%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $695 per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Peru.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Peru amounted to -15.1% per year.

Imports of Sheep and Goats; Live in Bolivia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of sheep and goats; live, when their volume decreased by -37.3% to 292 units. In general, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 430%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 466 units, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, sheep and goats; live imports contracted remarkably to $13K in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $16K, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
