Price for Seafood Meals and Pellets in Norway (CIF) - 2023
The average seafood meals and pellets import price stood at $2,116 per ton in August 2023, shrinking by -1.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.9% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,209 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Uruguay ($2,219 per ton) and Faroe Islands ($2,145 per ton), while the price for Peru ($1,981 per ton) and Chile ($2,044 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Seafood Meals and Pellets in Norway (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average seafood meals and pellets export price amounted to $2,023 per ton, dropping by -8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 22% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,197 per ton in July 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,801 per ton), while the average price for exports to Faroe Islands ($879 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Seafood Meals and Pellets in Norway
In 2022, approx. 220K tons of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs were imported into Norway; with an increase of 27% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, seafood meals and pellets imports surged to $430M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 40%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +23.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 37%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 99K tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, seafood meals and pellets exports fell sharply to $144M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +30.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $182M, and then declined sharply in the following year.
