The average import price for hams, shoulders and cuts of swine (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) stood at $10,448 per ton in August 2023, declining by -4.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 15% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $11,429 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($12,004 per ton) and Germany ($10,742 per ton), while the price for Spain ($9,659 per ton) and Belgium ($10,153 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for hams, shoulders and cuts of swine (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) stood at $7,658 per ton in September 2023, falling by -3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated measured growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 16% month-to-month. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($9,760 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,622 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
