Price for Propylene, Other Olefin Polymers; Propylene Copolymers in Primary Forms in China (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for propylene, other olefin polymers; propylene copolymers in primary formses stood at $1,181 per ton in December 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,292 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($1,747 per ton), while the price for Russia ($812 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for propylene, other olefin polymers; propylene copolymers in primary formses stood at $1,456 per ton in December 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,708 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($2,292 per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro ($888 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of propylene, other olefin polymers; propylene copolymers in primary formses decreased by -2.5% to 1.6M tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 17%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
