Price for Propylene, Other Olefin Polymers; Polyisobutylene in Primary Forms in Brazil (FOB) - 2024

The average export price for propylene, other olefin polymers; polyisobutylene in primary formses stood at $1,200 per ton in February 2024, falling by -5.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 14% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,727 per ton. From August 2023 to February 2024, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,004 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,079 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,927 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($7,696 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($1,675 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of propylene, other olefin polymers; polyisobutylene in primary formses decreased by -14.1% to 3.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 50%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
