In 2022, the average import price for press-fasteners, snap-fasteners, press-studs and parts therefor amounted to $5,196 per ton, falling by -45.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 851%. The import price peaked at $10,785 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($21,861 per ton), while the price for Kenya ($1,846 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+36.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for press-fasteners, snap-fasteners, press-studs and parts therefor amounted to $19,151 per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 200% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $24,226 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($20,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($3,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 74 kg, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, exports of press-fasteners, snap-fasteners, press-studs and parts therefor fell significantly to $1K in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71%.
