Price for Prepared or Preserved Fish and Dishes in Latvia (FOB) - 2023

In December 2023, the average export price for prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine amounted to $4,088 per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 22% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,467 per ton. From June 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,459 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($2,187 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine stood at $5,132 per ton in December 2023, falling by -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,756 per ton in November 2023, and then fell in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Norway ($10,798 per ton), while the price for Chile ($2,237 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Prepared or Preserved Fish and Dishes in Latvia

In 2022, the amount of prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine exported from Latvia surged to 39K tons, rising by 19% on the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine rose remarkably to $131M in 2022.
