Price for Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Poland (CIF) - 2023

The average polypropylene in primary forms import price stood at $1,387 per ton in August 2023, falling by -3.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 9.5% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,704 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,188 per ton), while the price for Oman ($1,009 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Price for Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Poland (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average polypropylene in primary forms export price amounted to $1,302 per ton, falling by -6.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 6.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,588 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,743 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($1,009 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Poland

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of polypropylene in primary forms decreased by -16.2% to 610K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 727K tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms imports reduced notably to $1.1B in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.3B, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports of Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Poland

In 2022, shipments abroad of polypropylene in primary forms decreased by -8% to 186K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 202K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms exports declined to $320M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 65%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $339M, and then contracted in the following year.
