Price for Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022

The average polypropylene in primary forms import price stood at $1,402 per ton in March 2022, surging by 4.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2021 when the average import price increased by 8.7% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,524 per ton in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to March 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($1,488 per ton) and Singapore ($1,475 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,279 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($1,280 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average polypropylene in primary forms export price amounted to $1,224 per ton, picking up by 8.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,905 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($3,562 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($562 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Indonesia

In 2022, the amount of polypropylene in primary forms imported into Indonesia skyrocketed to 919K tons, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms imports expanded significantly to $1.2B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Polypropylene in primary forms exports from Indonesia rose slightly to 12K tons in 2022, with an increase of 1.7% against 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 384%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 119K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms exports rose significantly to $15M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 360%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $107M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
