Price for Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Spain (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average polyolefins other than polypropylene import price amounted to $1,735 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 111% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,910 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,072 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,104 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Spain (FOB) - 2022
The average polyolefins other than polypropylene export price stood at $1,615 per ton in 2022, declining by -20.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 48%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,027 per ton, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,277 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($1,325 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Spain
In 2022, approx. 294K tons of polyolefins other than polypropylene were imported into Spain; increasing by 5.6% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, polyolefins other than polypropylene imports reached $553M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports of Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Spain
For the fourth year in a row, Spain recorded growth in shipments abroad of polyolefins other than polypropylene, which increased by 26% to 341K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, polyolefins other than polypropylene exports stood at $552M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.7% against 2020 indices.
