Price for Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In October 2023, the average polyolefins other than polypropylene export price amounted to $1,607 per ton, growing by 3.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 6.4% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,668 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In October 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United Arab Emirates ($2,085 per ton) and Turkey ($1,830 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($1,393 per ton) and Serbia ($1,433 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average polyolefins other than polypropylene import price amounted to $1,776 per ton, declining by -14.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $2,332 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,856 per ton), while the price for Singapore amounted to $1,283 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Hungary
In 2022, overseas shipments of polyolefins other than polypropylene decreased by -19.6% to 100K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 124K tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, polyolefins other than polypropylene exports dropped rapidly to $184M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $240M, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
