Price for Polyethylene Glycol and Polyether in Greece (CIF) - 2022
The average polyethylene glycol and polyether import price stood at $2,493 per ton in 2022, which is down by -13.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,889 per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Romania ($2,857 per ton) and China ($2,728 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($2,001 per ton) and Spain ($2,264 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Polyethylene Glycol and Polyether in Greece (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average polyethylene glycol and polyether export price amounted to $4,308 per ton, with a decrease of -18.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, polyethylene glycol and polyether export price increased by +14.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 40%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,264 per ton, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($18,891 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malta ($1,197 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Polyethylene Glycol and Polyether in Greece
In 2022, approx. 19K tons of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms were imported into Greece; with a decrease of -9.8% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 21K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports shrank rapidly to $48M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +39.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $61M, and then fell notably in the following year.
