Price for Polyethylene Glycol and Polyether in China (FOB) - 2021

In December 2021, the average polyethylene glycol and polyether export price amounted to $2,785 per ton, approximately equating the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 an increase of 7.8% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,827 per ton in November 2021, and then fell in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($4,123 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($2,227 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average polyethylene glycol and polyether import price stood at $3,139 per ton in December 2021, rising by 3.8% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2021 when the average import price increased by 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,206 per ton in June 2021; however, from July 2021 to December 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($5,969 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,835 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Polyethylene Glycol and Polyether in China

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms, when their volume decreased by -15.8% to 1M tons. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.2M tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether exports reduced notably to $2.3B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 117% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $3.2B, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports into China reduced modestly to 651K tons, which is down by -2.2% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3.6%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 665K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports fell markedly to $1.6B in 2022.
