Price for Polyesters in Primary Forms in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average polyesters in primary forms export price stood at $3,916 per ton in July 2023, falling by -3.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 8% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $4,268 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($5,169 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($2,646 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Polyesters in Primary Forms in Germany (CIF) - 2022
The average polyesters in primary forms import price stood at $3,705 per ton in 2022, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,859 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($7,170 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,714 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Polyesters in Primary Forms in Germany
In 2022, exports of polyesters in primary forms (excluding polyacetals, polyethers, epoxide resins, polycarbonates, alkyd resins, polyethylene terephthalate, other unsaturated polyesters) from Germany shrank to 431K tons, with a decrease of -14.1% on 2021. Overall, exports saw a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 502K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, polyesters in primary forms exports reached $1.7B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 385K tons, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
In value terms, polyesters in primary forms imports expanded notably to $1.4B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year.
