In January 2024, the average import price for platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses amounted to $33.1M per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 23% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $35.0M per ton in November 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to January 2024.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Italy ($36.8M per ton), while the price for France ($8.7M per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses increased by +68.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 37%. The export price peaked at $48,642,820 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($65,741,305 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($26,817,938 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, imports of platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses declined remarkably to $2.5B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year.
