In January 2024, the average export price for platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses amounted to $35.7M per ton, reducing by -4.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $61.7M per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In January 2024, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($41.0M per ton) and Germany ($36.8M per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($28.6M per ton) and the UK ($30.3M per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (-3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
