In January 2024, the average export price for platinum; unwrought or in semi-manufactured formses amounted to $33.4M per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 18% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $59.0M per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($38.5M per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK stood at $32.8M per ton.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-3.6%).

In general, the import price showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 161%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($57,703,891 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($1,149,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
