In 2022, the average import price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants amounted to $0.3 per unit, reducing by -12.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 83%. The import price peaked at $0.3 per unit in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($0.5 per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($0.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($0.7 per unit), while the average price for exports to Poland ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at 37M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants contracted to $9.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $9.9M, and then fell in the following year.
