The average import price for pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses stood at $1,063 per ton in August 2023, shrinking by -3.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 4.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,229 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($1,075 per ton), while the price for Germany amounted to $1,034 per ton.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (-0.2%).

The average export price for pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses stood at $1,049 per ton in 2022, growing by 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 75%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($1,186 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($601 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+19.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Pitch; Obtained from Coal Tar or from Other Mineral Tars in Poland
In 2022, overseas purchases of pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses decreased by -28.8% to 71K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 100K tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, imports of pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses skyrocketed to $73M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 67%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29%.
In value terms, exports of pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses expanded notably to $28M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
