The average export price for pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses stood at $909 per ton in September 2023, rising by 1.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 2.5% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,166 per ton. From April 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($1,008 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($515 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahrain (-3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In September 2023, the average import price for pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses amounted to $1,118 per ton, growing by 66% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 114% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,379 per ton. From August 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,322 per ton), while the price for Japan stood at $1,111 per ton.
From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Pitch; Obtained from Coal Tar or from Other Mineral Tars in China
Exports of pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses from China surged to 744K tons in 2022, rising by 20% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +82.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of pitch; obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tarses soared to $803M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 134%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
