Price for Phenols and Other Oils and Oil Products in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average export price for phenols and other oils and oil products amounted to $808 per ton, jumping by 52% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a slight setback. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $975 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($923 per ton) and South Korea ($882 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($759 per ton) and Singapore ($781 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In March 2022, the average import price for phenols and other oils and oil products amounted to $1,024 per ton, waning by -15.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 an increase of 72% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,248 per ton in July 2021; however, from August 2021 to March 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,753 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($726 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+22.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Phenols and Other Oils and Oil Products in Indonesia

In 2022, shipments abroad of phenols and other oils and oil products decreased by -87.9% to 197K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports saw a precipitous descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.7M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of phenols and other oils and oil products reduced sharply to $159M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a dramatic setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of phenols and other oils and oil products, when their volume decreased by -94.7% to 27K tons. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 85%.

In value terms, imports of phenols and other oils and oil products reduced rapidly to $30M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a sharp downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $338M, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
