In 2022, the average import price for petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbonses amounted to $998 per ton, jumping by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,290 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to -2.5% per year.

Imports of Petroleum Gases and Other Gaseous Hydrocarbons in Nepal

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbonses decreased by -1.8% to 517K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 527K tons, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbonses surged to $516M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 71%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
