Price for Oils from Coal Tar in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
The average oils from coal tar import price stood at $1,384 per ton in September 2023, picking up by 11% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 23% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,670 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,959 per ton), while the price for Spain ($917 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Oils from Coal Tar in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
The average oils from coal tar export price stood at $917 per ton in 2022, growing by 48% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a mild increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,014 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($634 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Oils from Coal Tar in Brazil
In 2022, purchases abroad of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar decreased by -11.5% to 201K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year.
In value terms, oils from coal tar imports skyrocketed to $262M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports of Oils from Coal Tar in Brazil
In 2022, the amount of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar exported from Brazil reduced to 105K tons, with a decrease of -11.3% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 273%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 119K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, oils from coal tar exports surged to $97M in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 409%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
