Price for Niobium, Tantalum, Vanadium Ores and Concentrates in China (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for niobium, tantalum, vanadium ores and concentrateses stood at $25,631 per ton in December 2023, reducing by -19.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 39% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $35,996 per ton. From July 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($51,999 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($16,533 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+51.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for niobium, tantalum, vanadium ores and concentrateses stood at $4 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of 99.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $52,663 per ton in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($4 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates stood at $4 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+2.0%).
