The average export price for nickel; wire, of nickel alloyses stood at $43,236 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 6.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $57,297 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($45,830 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($33,650 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In August 2023, the average import price for nickel; wire, of nickel alloyses amounted to $41,191 per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 49% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $85,473 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($195K per ton), while the price for Italy ($31,011 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Nickel; Wire, of Nickel Alloys in Switzerland
In 2022, shipments abroad of nickel; wire, of nickel alloyses decreased by -30.6% to 1.1K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a dramatic decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
