In July 2023, the average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price amounted to $23,850 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $29,780 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($96,275 per ton), while the price for Norway ($23,124 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed export price stood at $23,253 per ton in July 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 83% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $44,825 per ton. From April 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Finland.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Peru amounted to 0.0% per month.
Imports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Sweden
In 2022, the amount of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds imported into Sweden declined to 14K tons, with a decrease of -10.8% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports showed a abrupt curtailment. The smallest decline of -7% was in 2021.
In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports skyrocketed to $349M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
