In July 2023, the average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price amounted to $23,942 per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 58% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $29,107 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Norway ($26,852 per ton), while the price for Germany ($12,841 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed export price amounted to $25,265 per ton, which is down by -1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $31,886 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($26,250 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($24,232 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Spain
Nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports into Spain fell slightly to 14K tons in 2022, reducing by -4.7% on 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 12%.
In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports soared to $338M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +88.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 47%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
