The average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price stood at $24,210 per ton in July 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 13% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $29,369 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Estonia ($28,097 per ton) and Luxembourg ($25,639 per ton), while the price for Germany ($22,900 per ton) and the Netherlands ($23,258 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed export price stood at $27,882 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 289% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $111K per ton. From September 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($47,142 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($26,876 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Austria

In 2022, imports of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds into Austria skyrocketed to 7.8K tons, jumping by 27% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction.

In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports soared to $197M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
