In January 2024, the average import price for nickel; plates, sheets, strip and foils amounted to $47,063 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 2.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $47,890 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($47,261 per ton) and Germany ($47,261 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($44,832 per ton) and China ($45,121 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for nickel; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $65,796 per ton in 2022, jumping by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 80% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $83,588 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($119,012 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($32,043 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+38.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
