In 2022, the average import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires amounted to $68,346 per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires increased by +85.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 40%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($164,593 per ton), while the price for Italy ($30,035 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $46,747 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($138,643 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($25,663 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, approx. 150 tons of nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires were imported into Ukraine; falling by -59.1% on the previous year. In general, imports saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 367 tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.
